The Whitehouse is one of the oldest and most celebrated B&B’s in the Niagara region.

Originally started in 1983, it has been continuously run since then.

The origins of the Lot date from the intial Olde Towne survey of the 1790s but the recorded surviving surveys date the construction of the West Wing of the home to the 1820's. The home was augmented in the 1920s with the East wing.

French doors off the Dining room and library/living rooms leading to the gardens, fireplaces and over 4500 sq. ft. of space, at the Whitehouse one is embraced by space, light, and the delicious peace and noted architecture of its origins.

This property has been home to a succession of owners of prominence from both the Canadian and American sides of the Niagara River.

Prior to and after the American Civil War this Niagara manor home received many prominent members of the liberal American confederacy and Northern establishment, that till the War had been eminent participants in the federal pre-war politics of Washington including the last Vice-president under President Lincoln.

Today, it remains one of the longest continuously operated Niagara-on-the-lake Bed and Breakfasts, commencing with the ownership of the Howe family in the early 1980's and under the guidance and humour of Margherita and Norman Howe.

In addition the spacious living and dining rooms are most appropriate and conducive to wine and cheese tasting. Glasses, plates etc provided. Enjoy!

The Grand WhiteHouse is situated in the heart of the Olde Towne, being one of the originally settled lots in the 1700s and on its own original estate lot of 1 acre.

The main shopping and theatre/restaurant district contained along Queen and King Streets (the Heritage district) is but 200 yards distant and easy walking as are all the points of historical, culinary and architectural interest in the Towne itself.

One is also within easy walking/bicycling or driving distance from a myriad of golf courses, wineries, hisorical sites galleries, restaurants and of course the Niagara Falls.

Bicycle Rentals are available nearby and there are a wonderful arrangement of biking paths and journeys that emanate from the Olde Towne. Peter, the proprietor is an avid biker, golfer, tennis player, hiker and runner and knows a fair bit about the history of the Towne as it was and as it is today.

The Chamber of Commerce is but 2 blocks away. The golf course is walking distance.

You are in the core of the best wineries in the Peninsula and orchards abound.

You are also centred on numerous walking and biking routes along and about the Towne, the Lake and the beautiful Niagara River and of course all of the inland soft fruit and grape cultivated areas.
